Our one-day Ice Axe clinic is for anyone wants to ascend Mt. Shasta via Avalanche Gulch but lacks the necessary technical skills. Or for climbers or hikers who want to learn about the basic tools and techniques of snow climbing. Designed to give you the necessary information you need to hike or climb over snow-covered terrain which encountered while climbing the Avalanche Gulch route on Mt. Shasta. Topics include: Walking with the Ice axe, ice axe self-belay, ice axe self-arrest (from all positions), crampons boot fit and adjustment, walking in crampons, flat-footing, French technique, German technique, using the front points, and glissading. Our Ice Ax clinic is designed to give you practical skills needed while climbing Mt. Shasta but is not a substitute for basis mountain sense and judgment while climbing Mt. Shasta. Basic Mtn ClinicPerhaps the best value for climbers looking to hone their mountain skills.  This one-day climbing course is designed for individuals and groups who want or need to learn additional mountaineering techniques for their adventures.  As well as add to their knowledge base for climbing steep snow slopes, the latest in belaying and rope techniques, with instruction in a variety of climbing techniques. Instruction includes  Rope team travel, climbing knots, snow anchor placement, snow belays, and advanced ice ax and crampons techniques.
